2018 Parish Cruise Was a Success
On January 7th a group of 98 parishioners and friends left St. Alphonsus to go on a Caribbean Cruise with Father Mike. Our first day was spent at sea before arriving at our first port at Cozumel. Excursions offered included touring Mayan ruins, enjoying the beach, swimming with the dolphins, snorkeling or just shopping.
Our second port was Roatan, Honduras. Some excursions here ranged from beach parties to Catamaran sailing and snorkeling, visiting an Animal Sanctuary and Preserve to seeing the Coral Reef in a mini-submarine. A small group visited the Cameo Factory where we met and talked to the master-craftsman. His family has done this for four generations.
From Honduras we went to Harvest Caye, Belize. Shore excursions included seeing Mayan ruins, Jungle River rafting or tubing, para-sailing, and zip lining 3000 feet from the top of a lighthouse. A few brave souls did zip line and parasail. Several rented cabanas and enjoyed a day at the beach while others just enjoyed shopping.
Our last stop was Costa Maya, Mexico. Shore excursions here included the Chacchoben Mayan Ruins, beach getaways, dolphin encounters, catamaran cruising and snorkeling. Many enjoyed walking through the shops and watching the free entertainment in the market area.
We had wonderful entertainment in the Stardust Theater each night. We had a comedian, a Broadway singer (Jeri Sangar with a J), an acrobatic husband and wife, and Legends in Concert featuring Michael Jackson, Madonna, and Elvis impersonators. The officers, staff, and crew put on a grand finale. The Norwegian Pearl singers and dancers were excellent.
Father Mike said Mass Saturday in the Stardust Theater. An announcement was made by the Cruise director about the Mass. Father welcomed those who came to join us. After Mass a group photograph was made.
The weather was perfect, the food was excellent, and the daily entertainment was great. A good time was had by all! We returned Sunday, January 14 a tired but happy group.
